Connor Thomas Awarded the Guy Cuddihee Memorial Scholarship
Each year, the Guy Cuddihee Memorial Scholarship identifies and recognizes a student from Samuel W. Wolfson High School who goes above and beyond in the community and awards them with a college scholarship for the upcoming school year. Over the years, Cuddihee established a large philanthropic footprint across the First Coast as a leader and board member of several nonprofits. Through this scholarship, we’re continuing Guy’s legacy and inspiring students to keep making a difference for those around them.
For the 2022-2023 school year, Connor Thomas was chosen. Connor views community service as an opportunity to make a difference. He recognizes that through service, he can dedicate his time and skills to help make his community a better place.

When he was 15, Connor lost his father to brain cancer. In the midst of dealing with this loss, he found Inheritance of Hope. This organization was created to inspire hope in young families facing the loss of a parent.
Connor had the opportunity to volunteer this year at Inheritance of Hope’s Legacy Retreat at Walt Disney World. He was able to spend time with children who shared his story. Connor said, “Whether it was pushing a wheelchair or bringing children on rides, I realized I could make a difference in people’s lives through simple acts of kindness.”
Following this trip, Connor found a new desire to serve his community. He wants to help transform his city. This scholarship will assist him through his college journey at the University of Florida as he pursues his degree in Bio-Medical Engineering as well as continue his outreach to local organizations.

“Guy was a remarkable man, and to be awarded in his honor is unbelievable,” says Connor, “I promise to continue to be open and show love just like Guy.” He would want Guy to know that he reminds him a lot of his Dad and he appreciates all the good he did in the community.
Congratulations, Connor, for being the recipient of this scholarship! We cannot wait to see all that you do.
